News and Updates

I thought I’d use this post to update you on how things are going, what’s working, what’s not, and so on. This is only true for me, and I in no way wish to insinuate these things would or would not work for others.

Acupuncture: I have decided that this treatment provides only minimal relief and does not last very long, so I have removed it from my calendar. I may return later, but right now, I cannot fit in anything that does not allow me to see some relief or results.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: I still love this, and it’s probably the thing that has made the most noticeable difference in my strength levels.

Massage: I am still getting a massage from J every two weeks and loving it. It makes me feel good for at least ten days, and I look forward to the next one.

Physical Therapy / Occupational Therapy: I am not doing as much therapy with the PT and OT clinic as I was, as both of them think they have given me enough help that I can exercise at home and/or enough workarounds to be more functional. I now go to the little gym at my complex and fit in a little exercise each week. I am still walking an hour every morning. I am getting a little slower, but I am out there early, getting in that hour.

Meanwhile . . .

I have volunteered to host a support group for all IBM patients in Arizona, keeping me busy getting organized. We held our first online meeting in May. I’ll write a post that talks more about this in the future.

I have not had any more falls, but I have changed my travel procedure. I now ask for a wheelchair and take someone with me so I am not alone on the floor in the airport with folks stepping over me to get to their flight. It is a dangerous place for someone who is slightly unstable, as people can hit you with backpacks and shoulders and keep on going. I will be traveling to California in June for my second visit to the Irvine Research Center for the Study I am a part of. I will let you know how that goes.

This blog is helping me the most with mental health. Thank you for reading it. I know not all of it is interesting to all of you, but if I give anyone a single idea someone can use, it makes me happy. I have also been listening to the healing frequencies on YouTube as background music in my house whenever I am home. There is one called deep healing frequency and one called Aurolax that I find the most calming.

May was myositis awareness month. Here are some good links to help you learn more about myositis: on Facebook and on the Myositis.org page.

As always, thanks for reading. If you know of anyone who might benefit from my blog, please share the link with them. I’ll be back in a couple weeks with a new post - looking forward to it!
